ONVIF Standard shows wide acceptance from manufacturers
Since the launch of ONVIF in 2008, the organization has attracted more than 180 member companies,
reflecting the great market interest for interoperability and standardization. “There is a constant need to
educate the market on these topics and by participating at events such as IFSEC we make the
knowledge easily available to the right target groups,” says Jonas Andersson.
“Without a global standard, end users and integrators will always need to consider the need for extra
integration work before making their final decision regarding system components for their security
solution,” says Jonas Andersson at Axis Communications and Chairman of ONVIF’s steering
committee. “A global standard makes it easier for everyone as it ensures interoperability between the
products regardless of brand.”
“ONVIF has made impressive progress,” says Simon Harris, Senior Research Director at IMS
Research. “In less than two years, the organization has attracted companies that account for
72% of the global network video surveillance market. Several of these have already released
ONVIF conformant products or software, so it is becoming quite clear that ONVIF will impact the
global security industry as a whole.”
